The full story

The idea for Flamingo was born in Paris. We wanted to spend a nice evening. Around us: 25 restaurants, all of them looking very promising with their shimmering lights. We started checking reviews on Google Maps.
We knew nothing about the writers. Were they friends of the restaurant owner – or rivals? Was it a paid post or written by someone who had a bad day? One of them recommended the restaurant, the next one didn’t. After an hour we stopped reading. We felt overwhelmed, and we knew nothing more. We’re sure you know the feeling!

The restaurant we chose was a big disappointment. The food was average, the waiters ignored us, the bill was extraordinary. It was a waste of money, and more important, a waste of lifetime. But it was still something good about it. Because in the restaurant, waiting for the waiters…

...the idea of Flamingo was born!

We imagined a map which wouldn’t feature all of the 25 restaurants we saw. Just two or three. But, you know, these are a bet. We talked about our idea to some friends who are heavy travelers. One knows about the best local restaurants in Bangkok, a second one about a romantic homestay somewhere in the Albanian mountains, the third one about the best bars in Tokio. They were excited about the possibility to connect and share their knowledge and experiences. And now they can. You can.

Life is short.

Don't spend it in bad places.
